WordPress Development Services: Easy for Your Team, Fast for Years
THE SHORT ANSWER
Custom WordPress development, built to stay good
Our custom WordPress development services start from what your site has to do and who has to edit it. Most projects get a site built around your own set of page building blocks: your team assembles pages freely, and the design and speed stay under control because the blocks are made for your brand and nothing else. Larger or more demanding projects get a headless build, where WordPress stays the editor your team already knows and the public website is built separately for speed. Either way, we leave out the thing that wears most WordPress sites down: a page builder producing heavy pages while plugins pile up around it. If a page builder really is the right answer for your budget and timeline, we will tell you that too.
THE USUAL HISTORY
Why WordPress sites slow down, and why it is decided on day one
WordPress runs more than two in five websites, and plenty of them are excellent. The ones that are not usually share a history.
A page builder goes in at the start, because it makes the site editable and the build cheap. It works. Then marketing needs a slider, so a plugin. Then a form, so another. Then a popup, a cookie banner, a review widget, a booking calendar. Each one loads on every page, including the pages that do not use it. Two years later the site takes four seconds to load, nobody can say which of the twenty-eight plugins is responsible, and nobody wants to be the person who switches one off to find out.
None of that was a bad decision at the time. It is where that starting point leads, which is why how a site is built matters more than any single choice made afterwards. If your site is already there, our WordPress SEO service is the clean-up. This page is about not ending up there.
THE THIRD OPTION
You do not have to choose between freedom and a fast site
Most people think there are two options. A page builder, where your team can change anything and the site slowly degrades. Or a hand-built site that stays clean, where every content change goes into a developer's queue.
Page builder
✓ Your team can change anything✕ The site slowly degrades
Hand-built
✓ Stays clean✕ Every change waits on a developer
Your own building blocks
✓ Your team builds pages freely✓ Design and speed stay under control
There is a third, and it is how a modern professional WordPress build works. We design a set of building blocks around what your site actually needs: a hero, a feature grid, a testimonial, a pricing table, whatever the design calls for. Your team builds pages from those blocks in the standard WordPress editor, with no extra plugin and no training course.
The difference is what the blocks will not let you do. They cannot produce off-brand fonts, because they do not offer them. They cannot bloat a page, because each one is built to do one job well. The freedom is real, and the guardrails are built in rather than a rule somebody has to enforce.
It costs more than installing a page builder and far less than a developer ticket for every change, and it is the difference between a site that gets better over three years and one that gets worse.
FROM BRIEF TO HANDOVER
How it works
Understand
We work out what the site has to do, who edits it and how often, and what your current site is costing you. If you have one, we audit it first.
Design the blocks
We design your pages and the set of building blocks behind them together, so every layout your team will need exists before build starts.
Build
We build the site, the blocks and any integrations, with search, speed and accessibility checked as we go rather than at the end.
Launch and hand over
We move your content and protect your search rankings with a full redirect plan, then train your team on the editor. ORCHA's marketing manager singled out exactly this part.
Support, if you want it
Ongoing support and maintenance are available, and optional. The site, the code and the accounts are yours from day one.
HEADLESS
When headless WordPress is the right answer
Headless WordPress means WordPress stays as the editor and the public website is built as a separate, faster application. The people writing content notice nothing. The people visiting get a considerably quicker site.
What has changed is who asks for it. It used to be large publishers. Now it is mid-sized businesses, and the reason is rarely technical enthusiasm: a growth team wants to launch landing pages without waiting for anyone.
Worth it when
the site is a serious traffic asset, the front end has to do things a standard site cannot, you publish the same content to several places, or speed is costing you money rather than just looking untidy.
Not worth it when
a good custom build would do, which is most of the time. Headless adds a second system somebody has to maintain, and that cost never goes away.
The part everyone forgets: preview
And the part everyone forgets until it is too late: preview. Editors need to see a draft before they publish it, and on a headless site that does not work unless someone builds it. It is the most common reason headless WordPress projects disappoint at handover. We have solved it and published how, which is a fair thing to check before hiring anyone for this.
What you get
A site your team runs themselves
New pages, campaigns and landing pages go live without a developer, and they still look right.
A site that stays fast
No page builder, no marketplace theme, and a plugin list we can justify line by line. Speed is measured before launch, not after someone complains.
Search set up properly from day one
One SEO plugin, configured fully, and the pages you do not want in Google kept out of it at build time rather than found in an audit two years later.
Features built for your business
When an off-the-shelf plugin nearly fits, a small custom plugin that does exactly the job is usually cheaper over five years.
A website connected to the rest of the business
WordPress talking to your CRM, booking system or internal tools, which is where enterprise WordPress development stops being a website and starts saving staff time.
Rescue for sites we did not build
Old, hacked, slow, or abandoned by whoever made them.
Everything in your name
Your code, your hosting account, your admin, and documentation written for a team that did not build it.
WHY US
A WordPress development agency that hands you the keys
Many WordPress development companies build in a way that keeps you coming back: proprietary page builders, plugins only they understand, hosting in their name. We build so you could walk away the day after launch, and we earn the next project instead.
We have also written about the hard parts publicly, including how to give editors a working preview on a headless WordPress site, the problem that sinks most of these projects at handover. That is a better test of an agency than a list of logos.
And we do not think WordPress is the answer to everything. When a content site has outgrown it, as AIP Foundation's had after ten years, we say so and move it. Which is why, when we recommend WordPress, it is because it is right.
Questions, answered straight
Will our team still be able to edit the site?
Yes, and that is the whole design. Your team builds pages from your own set of blocks in the standard WordPress editor, without a developer and without a page builder. If the answer to this question is no, the build was done wrong.
Why will you not use Elementor or Divi?
Not out of snobbery. They are a common reason WordPress sites fail Google's page speed measures, because of how much code they generate. They are a reasonable choice for a small site on a tight budget and a fast timeline, and if that is your situation a good page-builder specialist will serve you better than we would.
Is WordPress outdated in 2026?
No, for most content sites. It is still the most widely used website platform, your team probably knows it, and built properly it is fast and easy to run. It can be outgrown: a site with a decade of content, several languages and complex data may be better served by a different setup, which is what we built for AIP Foundation. We will tell you which one you have.
How many plugins will we end up with?
Fewer, and each one justifiable. The count matters less than what they do and when they load. The useful question is whether anything is loading on pages that do not use it.
What does headless WordPress mean, and should we go headless?
It means WordPress stays as your editor while the public website runs separately for speed. Usually you should not, and we build headless sites, so take that seriously. A good custom build covers most needs. Headless is right when speed or front-end requirements genuinely exceed what a standard site can do, and it adds a system somebody maintains permanently.
Can editors still preview drafts on a headless site?
Yes, when it is built in. It does not work by default, it is the most common reason these projects disappoint at handover, and it is worth asking any agency to show you rather than tell you.
Will you take on a site you did not build?
Routinely. We audit first, so you know what you are sitting on before anyone changes anything. ORCHA came to us that way, with technical issues they had been struggling with for months.
Who maintains it afterwards?
You can, and that is the intention: documentation, nothing proprietary, your accounts. We offer WordPress maintenance services on a retainer if you would rather not, but it is an option, not a condition.
