BVIS (British Vietnamese International School), a school within the global Nord Anglia Education network, partnered with Saigon Digital to design and develop a custom reading assessment platform tailored for 300–400 students across multiple year groups. The objective was to create an intuitive, secure, and scalable digital system that empowers students to track their reading progression, enables teachers to monitor class performance, and gives administrators complete control over quiz content and user management. The BVIS VAR platform modernises how reading comprehension is assessed, offering a structured approach inspired by Accelerated Reader but fully localised with Vietnamese and English content created by BVIS educators.

BVIS urgently required replacing manual reading assessments with a centralised, digital system designed specifically for their academic environment. The core difficulty lay in managing a complex, multi-level reading ecosystem where quiz levels did not always align with standard year groups, demanding highly flexible logic for student access and progression. Furthermore, the system required three separate user access levels—Student, Teacher, and Admin—each needing unique functionality and dedicated dashboards. A crucial technical hurdle was ensuring performance stability, guaranteeing that 300–400 students could access quizzes simultaneously during peak class sessions. Compliance with copyright laws, preventing public display of book files, and ensuring the scalability of internally created content for future reporting were also essential requirements for this secure, modern tool.

Saigon Digital addressed these complex educational and technical requirements through a structured, phased approach that prioritised system architecture and long-term scalability.

Phase 1: Discovery & System Architecture

• Our team collaborated closely with BVIS teachers, IT staff, and Nord Anglia Education representatives to define the entire technical framework, including student, teacher, and admin feature requirements, quiz-level structures, sorting logic, and access control systems. This foundational phase ensured complete clarity and risk mitigation before defining the technical hosting architecture using Next.js, NestJS, MongoDB, and AWS.

Phase 2: UI/UX Design for a Learning Environment

• We designed an interface rigorously optimised for its diverse user base (young students, teachers, and administrators). This included simple and intuitive quiz-taking flows, clear progression tracking, mobile-friendly layouts for accessibility, and a modern visual identity aligned with BVIS’s academic brand standards, focusing on reduced cognitive load during learning activities.

Phase 3: Core Platform Development

• We developed a full-stack web application built on modern, enterprise-grade technologies (Next.js, NestJS, MongoDB, AWS) to guarantee performance and resilience. Key modules included the Student Dashboard (view levels, track progression), the Teacher Dashboard (view student performance, monitor completion rates), and the Admin Level (manage quizzes, users, and control levels).

To deliver BVIS’s vision of a modern literacy platform, Saigon Digital engineered a bespoke educational system underpinned by several critical technical features. This included a Multi-level Access System with custom dashboards and unique permissions tailored for Student, Teacher, and Admin roles. We provided a dedicated Custom CMS for Quiz Management, enabling BVIS teams to flexibly manage and deploy internally created content. Crucially, the Reading Progression Engine was developed to ensure strict adherence to reading difficulty levels, preventing quizzes from being passed without matching the necessary academic standards. Finally, the system was hosted on a Performance-Optimised Infrastructure (leveraging AWS and NestJS) to guarantee reliability and high concurrency for 300–400 simultaneous users.

The collaboration successfully delivered a unified, high-performance educational platform that profoundly elevates BVIS’s academic delivery.

The BVIS VAR platform provides a structured, engaging, and scalable solution that fundamentally transforms literacy assessment at BVIS. Saigon Digital enabled BVIS to modernise student literacy assessment by replacing manual processes, giving teachers immediate, real-time insights into reading progress to support targeted intervention. This streamlines administrative workflows related to content and user management while laying the essential foundation for future data analytics and reporting tools within the school’s core digital infrastructure. The system is now positioned as a core digital resource, supporting BVIS’s long-term academic development across reading, comprehension, and student performance.
